Women's Health published an in-depth feature on Maiden Cricket founders Honor and Cat Black, exploring how the sisters built their kit brand from scratch - and their journey to their Dragons' Den pitch.
The piece traced Maiden back to the sisters' own experience of cricket's “struggle zone,” the teenage years when many girls disengage from sport due to a lack of girls' teams, kit built for male bodies, and general misunderstanding around how girls' bodies change. It described how a family conversation about quitting cricket altogether turned into the spark for Maiden, with Honor and Cat brainstorming designs at home, working with a designer, and travelling to a factory in Portugal to develop fabrics - turning a home project into a fully-fledged brand.
The feature also covered the sisters' approach to design, including adjustable, poppered trousers to account for how differently girls grow, built-in shorts for comfort and coverage, and opaque test match whites. Honor and Cat spoke about what it means to run a business together as siblings, and described their Dragons' Den pitch as one of the most nerve-wracking things they've done.
